Things To Do as a Couple

Things To Do as a Couple

I started writing this blog in the hopes to give out some ideas on “things to do as a couple”. But what you’re really going to put in the search term is “things to as a couple near me” and you’re going to find the usual suggestions: – dinner, movie, romantic walks, sights around sydney city. Of course these are classic activities and sometimes simplicity makes for a really amazing night. Other activities you’ll often see are cooking classes, wine tasting, trivia nights or weekend markets. These suggestions are great! However, sometimes you’re wanting something that could be done on regular basis and an activity that is different – an activity that strengthens connection, a mutal skill that you are both learning and memories that will last a lifetime.

Why Activities as a Couple Matters

We live in a day and age that we have to constantly keep our time occupied filled with things and sometimes unnecessary things to keep us busy for the sake of being busy – working more hours because we can, constantly scrolling our phones, watching TV and really, just always scrolling our phones… And we become complacent to the people who are right in front of us.

The Power of Learning a Skill Together

Doing activities as a couple improves overall relationship communication, strengthens bonds, allows conversation, promotes playfullness and creates shared memories. Finding an activity or hobby where you both start at the same level so you’re building a new skill together and sharing that journey together can help you rediscover and learn more about each other.

We know just the thing…

Why Private Dance Lessons for Couples are Different

Private Dance lessons is one of the most unique, enriching and enjoyable activities a couple can do together. Unlike big group classes, or one off social nights, private lessons are tailored to your needs as a couple – from what your learning style is, your pace, your taste in music and the overall ultimate goal on what is driving the need to spend time together. It can be intimate, fun and an incredible investment to your relationship. Learning to dance indirectly has some amazing things to help communication, intimacy and shared enjoyment – it’s 45 minutes you get to spend in your partners arms.

A Real Couples Experience

“I’M NOT A DANCER! (or so I thought).

Bought some dance lessons for my wife for her birthday thinking we’ll have a couple of lessons and then I can get back to my golf.

1 year later, we’re still dancing and dare I say, BOTH loving it.

I actually look forward to dancing each week and this from a guy who was happy to sit and admire others who had the nerve to get up and have a go.

I must admit when we arrived for our first lesson I was skeptical. Ballroom dancing is so formal and really not something you can use in the real world. I was wrong on both counts. Firstly, they really do emphasise the “Social” aspect. The teachers are fun, down to earth and not in the least bit intimidating. As for the dancing, there are so many styles to learn with multiple styles suited to whatever music is playing.

I have to also mention something that struck me after that first lesson There is something very special about the physical contact between you and  your partner while you’re dancing together. It’s comforting to be walking onto the floor as a team rather gyrating aimlessly on your own.

In our busy week to week lives, it’s good to have some time set aside (with no electronic devices) and spend some undivided attention with your partner.

If you are the least bit curious, you should definitely give the Social Dance Company a try. It might not be for you…but I’d be surprised if it wasn’t. One of the best decisions we’ve made as a couple.

Is this competitive dancing? – No, not at all. The complete opposite actually. How we teach is based on creating a fun environment. It isnt about perfection, it isn’t about the steps, it’s about creating an environment where you can connect together and have a heap of fun.
